A wise man said recently that an “everyday hero” need not be someone who leads a movement; it can be the person standing by your side saying, “I believe in you. You can do it!” I have been lucky to have such heroes root me on, especially when I wrote and finally published my novel Shelter Us in 2015.

This year, I have had the good fortune to add to that group my new friend and agent, Liza Fleissig of the Liza Royce Agency, and the (clearly visionary) editor Joe McNeely at Brilliance Publishing, who believed that Shelter Us should be heard.

*The October 15 launch date would have been an excellent pre-birthday present for my miracles-are-everywhere Grandma Lilli, who inspired the character of Bibi’s youthful qualities, who would have turned 104 the next day, and who would have said of all this hoopla, “I can’t believe the whole thing!”

    Hi Laura. Five audio books! That’s a wonderful giveaway. I want to tell you about a dear friend who faces adversity everyday but come us smiling. She’s had lupus for years and about five years ago was diagnosed with the same blinding eye disease her mother suffered from. Her sight is now almost gone. A year ago she was diagnosed with dementia. The diagnosis was no surprise to her friends. It was, however, a kick in the stomach to her. Still, she sings, she exercises and gives all the girls at the gym a laugh as her exercise partner, a straight chair, moves with a mind if their own. Yes, she cries. She asks whybut she ends each visit and conversation with laughter and I love you’d. I’m always looking for audio books I think she will love. So today she is my hero as well as the person with whom I would like to share an audio prize from you.

    I follow on FB, Instagram and Twitter.
    I am a substitute teacher and watch teachers everyday. They are my heroes because they not only touch the lives of young minds but endure much negative comments. Many teach special education and their children are so needy, yet the teachers smile and work hard every day with these young people.
