On April 29th, Beyond Shelter will host its Inspiration Awards at Paramount Studios. To me, it is the courageous staff of Beyond Shelter, and the families they serve, who are the inspiration.
Because of my connection with Beyond Shelter, from time to time people will ask me for help with a friend in need: a single mother with cancer who is losing her home; a divorced mom with no child support and no family in the country to help with her two school-age children.
My phone rang again tonight. “I heard you might be able to help me,” the woman said. She told me her story and while I listened, I felt powerless. I didn’t know what questions to ask. I didn’t know what services could be offered. Then I thought, this is what the professionals at Beyond Shelter do all day, every day. Help people in crisis like her. I thought about how hard it must be to face crises day after day, each story more difficult. I thought about how grateful I am that they exist, and that they know what to do.
If you’re in need of inspiration, join me to Paramount Pictures on April 29th, and see what a difference you can make in the lives of others.
If you’d like to come but can’t afford a ticket, please let me know.
Who inspires you? I’d like to spread the word.
xo, Laura
